A short underwater adventure originally made for Ludum Dare 48 in under 72 hours. We spent some extra time to polish it and fix things after the jam.

Story

You are a globefish named Bubblyn, on your way to the breeding grounds with your partner Booba and your friend Joefish the blowfish. However, there has been an oil spill that’s blocking your usual path down to the bottom of the ocean. The alternate route holds many unforseen dangers. Will everyone make it down in one piece?

Gorgeous aesthetics and satisfying voice acting! Love it!

fantastic game. wonderful voice acting, great art, nice music, and interesting game mechanics. I was just wondering, what happened to Joefish?

Poor guy got eaten alive :,(

Beautiful artwork and some really unique and fun mechanics. The story was surpisingly engaging too, gloo gloo…

gloo.

sexy game

I followed Blackthronprod and Jonas's dev streams on you-tube and I was super curious to try it out myself. It's simplicity, use of colours, art, creative monster design and gameplay is fantastic. Its great seeing my favorite You Tubers collaborate and create such a masterpiece game jam submission. Well done to the gang behind this.

Really beautiful game <3

I kept spamming SPACE and it just flew up into Space?!

Space checks out

Simple mechanics and beautiful graphics. Manages to be adorable and terrifying at the same time. Would recommend, and would definitely play a sequel.

4 gods came together to make this masterpiece!

I really liked it, wish that swimming against blocks and THEN activating puff form didn't just eat the input tho, the blocks stayed whole

(+1)

I want a sequel :(

It's called: Joefish: the revival

(+1)

So, are we just gonna ignore the fact that Joe/Joel just died...

(+1)

Very fun, the voice acting adds a lot, instead of boring text boxes, and the art is amazing, too!

Oh, I bid farewell to the port and the land

And I paddle away from brave England's white sands

To search for my long ago forgotten friends

To search for the place I hear all sailors end

As the souls of the dead fill the space of my mind

I'll search without sleeping 'til peace I can find

I fear not the weather, I fear not the sea

I remember the fallen, do they think of me?

When their bones in the ocean forever will be

Plot a course to the night to a place I once knew

To a place where my hope died along with my crew

So I swallow my grief and face life's final test

To find promise of peace and the solace of rest

As the songs of the dead fill the space of my ears

Their laughter like children, their beckoning cheers

My heart longs to join them, sing songs of the sea

I remember the fallen, do they think of me?

When their bones in the ocean forever will be

When at last before my ghostly shipmates I stand

I shed a small tear for my home upon land

Though their eyes speak of depths filled with struggle and strife

Their smiles below say I don't owe them my life

As the souls of the dead fill the space of my eyes

And my boat listed over and tried to capsize

I'm this far from drowning, this far from the sea

I remember the living, do they think of me?

When my bones in the ocean forever will be

Now that I'm staring down at the darkest abyss

I'm not sure what I want but I don't think it's this

As my comrades call to stand fast and forge on

I make sail for the dawn 'til the darkness has gone

As the souls of the dead live for'er in my mind

As I live all the years that they left me behind

I'll stay on the shore but still gaze at the sea

I remember the fallen and they think of me

For our souls in the ocean together will be

I remember the fallen and they think of me

For our souls in the ocean together will be

Beautiful! Thanks for making this video, shared it with the rest of the team :)

(+1)

Oh wow! Thank you so much! I feel honoured. ;{)

Awesome game, loved the art style and voice acting!

Thanks a lot! Noa's art is always great and I'm happy you liked our acting ^^

(+1)

very good 11.5/10 game

11.5/10 comment!

(+1)

That was a very nice game to play, sound design is awesome :)
I was a little bit confused with two circling things in the deep, maybe they should be more responsive to player, if it is a secret

Thank you! Glad you like the audio :)

The circling fish were added pretty much last minute just so that there's something in the room which was already there but empty.

(+1)

This was a fun game with a very unique artstyle

(+2)

loved the game. The part where the fish died freaked me out. good job, (especially Jonas's sister)

Thanks! Sorry for the fish-death lol

And you're right, Klara did an amazing job!

(+1)

Incredible game and art style!I loved everything, congrats!

(+1)

nice game, whichI could have avenged the fish that got killed.
not sure but did the fish who ran off at the very beginning make it to the end?

Also, in the place where that one fish died I found a place with 2 circling water snake things which was a dead end. was there supposed to be something.

RIP Unnamed fish! :'-(

(+1)

Thank you for playing!
The circling fish themselves are the secret / easter egg. Nothing else there. The fish who ran off at the very beginning is Joefish whom you later meet again just before... you know...
So yeah the name of the "Unnamed" fish is Joefish.

yeah I kind of played the game muted for undisclosed reasons, so I kind of didnt follow the dialog at all.
it was probably mentioned there I guess :-)

(+1)

Well Done!

(+5)

still not over the fact the other fish died. Goodbye cruel world

It's a tragedy. Still not over it myself :'(

I followed Yan's dev streams on you-tube and I was super curious to try it out myself. It's simplicity, use of colours, art, creative monster design and gameplay is fantastic. Hey, thanks for watching my streams, much appreciated :)

Glad you liked our little game :)

(+2)

Oh no, now I never want to become a fish again! So scary! Brrlrlrlrlrl

Wonderful game!

Haha thank you. It's scary down in the deep sea

That was... disconcerting.

(+1)

Hiii, I've made a video about the game and wanted to share some feedback about it, hopefully it is useful to you ^^

-The concept of the game is pretty interesting.

-The gameplay mechanics are really interesting and make the gameplay experience very interesting.

-The game visually looks awesome, the only thing that could be improved is the animations on the faces of the charecters when they are talking.

-The voice acting is really good and really enjoyable.

Hopefully this is useful to you :D, also if you could subscribe that would help me a lot :)

Regards

Thanks for playing and making a video!

I'm glad you like our voice acting :)

I agree, the facial animations are really basic lol... would help if at least the eyes didn't move constantly haha

But overall, Noa, as always did a fantastic job with the art and environment design.

You are welcome ^^

(+1)

Very funny game, i like the simplicity of the game.

Thanks!

(+1)

Nice game! Well done!

Thank you!

(+1)

if you right click too fast you fly super high its funny, but overall fun experience !

Haha yeah that was discovered by some of our players pretty much immediately after we launched it :D

We didn't catch that one while testing but oh well, it's kinda fun to do ^^

(+1)

Beutiful art, no bugs found, overall great game

Thanks!

(+1)

I want to get to this level of all round game design, this is just fantastic.

Thanks a lot! If you're not there yet, with time and practice, you can surely get there! (Also remember we're a team of 4 game makers and everyone did something for the game - couldn't have done it alone, especially in this time)

I liked it a lot the voice acting was really funny. Can you check my submission out. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/lostbrother

(+1)

i'm on trackpad, cant play it :(

(+1)

Ah, I'm sorry about that. We should probably think about adding controller support in an update...

it's ok. i have a mouse, but its right click is broken. :D hope i can fix it!

P. S. thank you for replying!

(+2)

You can just swim past that guy at the end

(+1)

Huh, my change to the collider must've gotten reverted in a Unity collab hiccup then. I guess that makes a pacifist run possible :D

(+2)

Loved the feel of this game. Great work!

Special congrats for the sounds! Loved the brbrbr sound when inflating.

(+1)

Hahaha yeah that sound was recorded by Klara. Was happy we got it implemented in the end.

Thank you for playing!

(+2)

Honestly what a beautiful experience, full of juice and full of polish! Amazing work to you all!

(+2)

Thanks a lot! :)

(+1)

noice

(+1)

Noice.

(+2)

What an amazing experience. The art is absolutely stellar. The audio design is so immersive. The cutscenes are great and super charming.

The main gameplay mechanic is so simple, yet effective. It acts as a means to damage, but also makes you go really fast. This also promotes speed running of the game which is always a plus.

It was really neat seeing the fish change their expression as they go, even when Bubblyn inflates. I love the initial dopey happy faces they make at the start. So cute!

The camera also adjusts at just the right times for the fast-moving areas and the slow corridors.

There was one moment where there are two spinning eels, and I was wondering what might be their secret? I even returned back there after reaching the end to bring Booba back with me, but still, nothing happens. I feel like I’m missing out on some sort of secret… :3

Definitely a candidate for the best game of the jam in my opinion. This is incredibly special. I’m so glad I found and played this! blush

(+1)

We're super happy you enjoyed it. Thanks a ton for playing! :)

Thank you for your in-depth and kind review! The spinning eels are something I put in last minute because the room was there but empty. Just supposed to be a little easter egg of sorts.
